BACKGROUND

In its first six years Hyderabad Urban Lab has acted as an incubator for researchers, teaching them research skills in real time contexts of enquiry. Equipped with these skills and substantial amount of field experience young people from HUL have moved on to academic research careers at renowned national and international universities. A few have sought work in policy and advocacy organisations.

This has been a time of HUL’s learning too. We have experimented with research methodologies and with tools for engagement. We have explored ways of collaborative knowledge production in house and in the field and most importantly with other organisations in the city and the country. This phase of work has enabled us to formulate ethical frameworks for enquiry, apart from pushing us to reflect on our limitations and assess our accomplishments objectively. We have also developed a wide range of inexpensive educative material, maps for the layperson, posters and calendars in local languages for information dissemination.
