M. Visvesaraya's City Improvement Schemes for Hyderabad, Deccan (1930)

Hyderabad Urban Lab brings to you all a digital copy of the first master plan for modern Hyderabad. The plan was commissioned by the Nizam Government and drawn up by Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya.

M. Visvevaraya was awarded India’s highest civilian honour Bharat Ratna in 1955, and his birth anniversary September 15th is observed in India as Engineers Day.

Visvevaraya is credited with conceptualising the flood balancing reservoirs at Gandipet, the storm water drainage and sewerage system and the first master plan of Hyderabad.

His statue stands at the Khairatabad traffic junction very close to the Institution of Engineers Building unfortunately rendered somewhat insignificant by the Hyderabad Metro Rail Pillar.
