G.O. 58 Applications in Hyderabad and Rangareddy Districts
On 30th December 2014, the Telangana State government issued G.O. 58. This Government Order provides for alienating unobjectionable public lands or surplus ceiling lands, less than 125 square yards in size, to BPL households who have been in possession of the land on or before 2nd June 2014.
The full text of the G.O. can be accessed here.
This G.O. is presented as a pro-poor initiative and applications were collected till 31st January 2015. In the images presented below, Harsha Devulapalli, a researcher at HUL, has visualized the number of applications that have been filed in each Mandal (Tehsil/Sub-District) of Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts.
The data was disclosed by the district administrations themselves. We are glad to see such proactive disclosure from the administration.
Presently the applications are still being processed and we are yet to see how many applications qualify for land assignment. At that stage we will be able to make further comments. For now, this post is just to present this data visualization.
