Category: Auto – The Man and the Machine

Our project on the Auto Rickshaw Sector in the city of Hyderabad is a research and outreach project that aims chiefly to document, analyze, and make available for popular education, material on the various aspects and experiences of the life of para-transit service providers.
The auto rickshaw, we argue, can be described as a shared resource as it provides mobility services to a variety of urban users on one hand, and livelihood for the driver on the other. The objective of our project therefore, is twofold:
1) To bridge the gap between local strategies and lived experiences in Hyderabad city, and national and state level transportation policy and mobility plans; and
2) To develop a workable communication solution that addresses the needs and goals of drivers, commuters and administrative authorities responsible for regulating para-transit in the city.
